What Esmeralda Is
A place where a woman over 50 finds somewhere to live, and where somebody with a home to offer finds her. Esmeralda introduces the two of you. What you agree between yourselves — the rent, the lease, the day she moves in — is yours, and Esmeralda is not a party to it.
What Is Free, And Stays Free
Every part of Esmeralda is open to every Esmeralda. Looking, writing, making your Portrait, changing her mind — all of it, always. That is structural rather than an offer, and it is how it stays.
What a property manager pays$159 for one home, once, and it stays up until the home is taken. Agencies buying in advance pay less per home. You are charged that once, and any renewal is yours to choose.
What You Write Here
Your words stay yours. Esmeralda shows them to whoever you have said may see them, in your voice and at your length. You may change or remove anything you have written, at any time, and it goes.
And what you write aboutEvery home and every person here is described as they truly are. A listing that overstates a home, or a Portrait that overstates a person, comes down — and we will tell you why rather than simply removing it.
Who Can See You
You begin kept to yourself, and every step open from there is one you take. You can step away whenever you like, keeping every word you have written, and come back to all of it. When you read a message, that stays with you.
What We Ask Of You
Write to people the way you would want to be written to. Bring what is true. And if somebody here treats you badly, tell us — we would far rather know than have you leave quietly.
Where This Falls Short
Esmeralda does not inspect homes, hold bonds, verify identities or stand behind an agreement two people make. Meet in daylight, take somebody with you the first time if you would rather, and trust what you feel about a place.
If Any Of This Changes
We will say so on this page, and we will name what changed rather than only that a change happened. What you agreed when you joined is what you agreed, and a later change reaches forward rather than back.
